  1. Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has organized a workshop titled “Connecting all Indians” to make India one of the largest connected countries of the world.
      • The workshop invited both public and private stakeholders including largest internet service providers in the country – Jio, Airtel, officials from MeitY and the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications.
      • The workshop will discuss a roadmap to accelerate internet access in currently underserved and uncovered villages and towns across the country.
  2. Northern Coalfields Ltd has joined hands with power major NTPC to install a 50 MW solar power project in Madhya Pradesh.
      • CIL NTPC Urja Pvt Ltd, a joint venture of Coal India Ltd and NTPC, which will coordinate for this entire project, has announced that the project would be completed within the stipulated time frame of one year.
  3. ‘Arogya Manthan 3.0‘ event was organized to celebrate the three years of Ayushman Bharat scheme.
  4. India hosted the first India-United Kingdom Consular Dialogue virtually to further strengthen people-to-people contacts between the two countries as part of the India-UK 2030 roadmap.
      • The dialogue also aims to facilitate consular access and early resolution of consular grievances through systematic information sharing, and cooperation on visas, extradition cases and mutual legal assistance.
      • The next round of this Dialogue will be held in London, in 2022.
  5. Union Government has introduced Patents (Amendment) Rules, 2021 which has reduced the fee for patent filing and prosecution for educational institutions by 80%.
      • The term of every patent in India is 20 years from the date of filing the patent application.
      • Patents Act, 1970 had replaced the Indian Patents and Designs Act 1911.
      • The fastest granted patent is the one which was granted in 41 days after filing of such request.
      • The facility of Expedited Examination system was initially provided for patent applications filed by Startups.
      • It has been now extended to 8 more categories of Patent Applicants:
        • SME (Small and Medium Enterprises),
        • Female applicants,
        • Government Departments,
        • Institutions established by a Central, Provincial or State Act, Government Company,
        • an Institution wholly or substantially financed by the Government and applicants under Patents Prosecution Highway.
  6. The first India-Australia Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting on coal and mines was held through video conferencing.
      • Both countries are cooperating on other verticals such as India Australia collaboration on Clean Coal Technology, Surface Coal Gasification, Coal Bed Methane, sharing of technology deployed for fire quenching, coal-based hydrogen, Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS).
      • India-Australia Energy Dialogue is scheduled to be held next month.

  8. Pradhan Mantri Digital Health Mission aka Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission has been launched nationwide.
      • This mission was announced in 2020. At that time, the Pradhan Mantri Digital Health Mission (PM-DHM) was launched in six Union Territories on a pilot phase.
      • All citizens of India will have a unique Digital Health ID, which will contain all the health-related information of a person.
      • This Health ID can be created by individuals via National Health Authority by using their Aadhar / mobile numbers.
      • Components of PM-DHM: –
        • Health Account – It will contain all personal health records, which can be linked and viewed with the help of a mobile application.
        • Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR) – Doctors / medical practitioners will be listed on the platform.
        • Healthcare Facilities Registries (HFR) – It will be a repository of all healthcare providers across both modern and traditional systems of medicine.
        • e-Pharmacy – It will ensure online booking and delivery of medicines.
        • Telemedicine consultation – It will help in getting health consultation at home.
        • Healthcare Information Exchange & Consent Manager – It will approve the sharing of the health data by individuals, and healthcare professionals.
8.	Pradhan Mantri Digital Health Mission
    • Unified Health Interface (UHI) – By using UHI, individuals can access to labs, doctors, tele-medicines, and other services.

      • Ease of doing business for doctors and hospitals as they will get patient’s information instantly.
      • Better access to health services for citizens.
      • No need to carry medical records as they are digitally available on the ID.

      • It will ensure security, confidentiality and privacy of health-related personal information.
      • Citizens will only be a click-away from accessing healthcare facilities.
      • It will be voluntary for citizens. They can add only that information which they want.
Unified Health Interface benefits
    • PM-DHM Sandbox will be developed for testing the digital health infrastructure.
    • National Health Authority is the implementing agency for PM-DHM. NHA also implements Ayushman Bharat scheme.

  1. Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has met with Dr Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, the United Arab Emirates in New Delhi.
      • Both countries are working on India-United Arab Emirates Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which may conclude by March 2022.
      • This CEPA will increase bilateral trade in goods to $100 billion and trade in services to $15 billion within five years of the signing date.
  2. Union Minister for Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal inaugurated the ‘Centre of Excellence in Logistics and Supply Chain Management‘ at the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai.
      • To strengthen the monitoring and analysis of complex logistics operations, this Centre will provide training programs.
      • The programs will be using new age technologies like Digitisation, Analytics, IoT Application and Decision Support Systems through Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications and Digital Twin and Control towers.

State News

  1. Integrated Aroma Dairy Entrepreneurship mission has been proposed to augment the income of farmers in Jammu and Kashmir.
      • The Aroma Mission is also known as the “Purple or Lavender” Revolution.
  2. Telangana government has signed an MoU with Wingsure (an insurtech venture of SRI International).
      • As a part of the agreement, Wingsure will provide deep-tech-based personalized crop insurance products and advisory services to small, underserved farmers in the state.
      • The state agriculture department and Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) will collaborate with Wingsure in offering the insurance.
  3. During the Tamil Nadu Exports Conclave, 24 MoU were signed by the state govt with other organizations to bring investments of over Rs. 2,000 crores.
      • One notable MoU was between Indo German Chamber of Commerce and M-TIPB for collaboration between MSMEs in Tamil Nadu and businesses in Germany.
      • The MoU will facilitate linkages, interaction, technology collaboration programmes and export opportunities for MSMEs in Tamil Nadu.
  4. Pune-based EV charging infra start-up goEgoNetwork has installed its electric vehicle charging facility at Kaza town in the Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh.
      • It is the world’s highest EV charging station.
      • India government’s vision is becoming a 100% EV nation by 2030.

  1. Indian Army is organizing a cultural event titled “Bijoya Sanskritik Mahotsav” at Kolkata to commemorate the victory of India over Pakistan in 1971 war.
      • The event will also showcase the cultural linkages between India and Bangladesh during the war.
      • 16 December 2021 will mark 50 years of the liberation of Bangladesh (aka the Swarnim Vijay Varsha).

      • As part of its CSR, the Coal India Ltd will contribute Rs 75 crores towards the National Sports Development Fund.

Reports & Indices

  1. UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization has released the “Tracking progress on food and agriculture SDG-related indicators” report.
      • The report focuses on eight of the SDGs. Decades of development efforts have been overturned by the pandemic.
      • According to the report, the COVID-19 pandemic might have pushed an additional 83 to 132 million people into chronic hunger in 2020.
      • Around 14% of all food is lost along the supply chain, before it even reaches the consumer, which is a higher proportion.
      • Besides quantitative, the report also records the progress on qualitative facet such as gender inequalities in land rights, high water stress in many regions, gender-based discriminatory laws and customs etc.
  2. World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has released United in Science 2021 report.
      • The report is a compilation of latest climate science information.
      • Preparators – WMO, UNEP, WHO, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Global Carbon Project, World Climate Research Programme and the Met Office (UK).
      • The world is unlikely to attain the targets of Paris Agreement.
      • It analyses the climate change impact across different parameters such as rise in sea level, loss of work hours, greenhouse gas emission, fossil fuel emission, rise in temperature etc.
      • The report states that the global mean sea levels rose 20 cm from 1900 to 2018.
        • Even if emissions are reduced to limit warming to well below 2°C, global mean sea level would likely rise by 0.3-0.6 m by 2100, and could rise 0.3-3.1 m by 2300.
      • An excess of 103 billion potential work hours were lost globally in 2019, compared to 2000.

  1. UNICEF has launched “Fed to Fail? The crisis of children’s diets in early life” report.
      • Children aged under-2 are not getting the food or nutrients they need to thrive and grow well.
      • Currently, only 73% of children aged 6–8 months are fed any solid foods.
      • Among children aged 6–23 months, only 52% are fed with the minimum meal frequency and only 29% benefit from minimally diverse diets.
      • In other words, more than two in three children aged 6–23 months are not fed the diverse range of foods they need for healthy growth and development.
