• PM-AJAY is a merged scheme comprising three centrally sponsored schemes:
o Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAGY),
o Special Central Assistance to Scheduled Castes Sub Plan (SCA to SCSP), and
o Babu Jagjivan Ram Chhatrawas Yojana (BJRCY)
• Objective-
o To reduce poverty among Scheduled Caste (SC) communities by generating additional employment opportunities
o To improve socio-economic developmental indicators by ensuring adequate infrastructure and requisite services in SC-dominated villages.
• Components of the Scheme:
o Development of SC Dominated Villages: Aiming to transform these villages into "Adarsh Grams" by ensuring integrated development and providing necessary infrastructure for socio-economic development.
o Grants-in-Aid for District/State-level Projects: These projects focus on the socio-economic betterment of SCs, including comprehensive livelihood projects, skill development, infrastructure development, and funding for assets acquisition for livelihood generation.
o Construction of Hostels: Construction of hostels in higher educational institutions and schools, with funding from the Centre/State/UT Governments.
• Special Provisions:
o Focus on SC Women: Up to 15% of the total grants are dedicated to viable income-generating economic development schemes/programs for SC women.
o Infrastructure Development: Up to 30% of the total grants are allocated for infrastructure development.
o Skill Development: At least 10% of the total funds are dedicated to skill development initiatives.
o Promotion of SC Women Cooperatives: The scheme promotes SC women cooperatives engaged in the production and marketing of consumer goods and services, facilitating their socio-economic empowerment.
