  1. India and Maldives have launched the pilot project on Pre-arrival Customs Data Exchange.
      • The project aims to enable the Customs Administrations of both the countries to share customs data on real-time basis.
      • It is expected to enhance facilitation of bilateral trade using risk management as well as aid compliance monitoring.
  2. Director General of National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and the Director General of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) have launched the NMCG-TERI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) on Water Reuse at the TERI Headquarters in New Delhi.
      • The CoE on Water Reuse is the first of its kind to be established in the country through a collaboration between NMCG and TERI.
      • The centre will meet the objectives of Ganga Knowledge Centre to foster research and innovation to make available safe treated water for reuse.
  3. Ministry for Tribal Affairs has launched TRIFED Van Dhan Chronicle. The chronicle documents the work done for the promotion of tribal enterprises.
      • Management Information System (MIS) for MSP on Minor Forest Produce was launched to provide information on procurement-related data for effective decision making.
      • 14 Honey FPOs (Farmer Produce Organizations) were also launched. Central govt aims to open 10,000 FPOs in the next 5 years.
      • UNICEF and TRIFED have signed an MoU for conducting the ‘Tribal Samvaad Network’ – for social and behaviour change of tribal people.
      • Earlier, UNICEF, WHO, and TRIFED had also launched ‘Covid Teeka Sangh, Surakshit Van, Dhan Udyam’.
        • The focus of the campaign is on three key Js i.e., Jeevan (Life), Jeevika (Livelihood) and Jaagrookta (Awareness and the mantra of the campaign was “Samvad se Sambandh.”
        • It is currently being rolled out in 100 tribal districts across India.
      • TRIFED, in collaboration with JD Centre of Arts, conducted a survey and released the ‘Tribal Livelihoods: From Sustenance to Sustainability’ report.
        • The report surveyed the tribal art and tradition in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Koraput and Rayagada districts of the state of Odisha

      • Birthday of Sri Aurobindo (real name: Aurobindo Ghose) is on 15 August 1872.
  2. National Book Trust, India has announced the results of the All-India Contest, organized on the theme of ‘National Movement of India’ under the PM-YUVA Mentorship Scheme as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
      • As per the Scheme, 75 Authors were to be selected through this contest for a Scholarship-cum-Mentorship Scheme for the young authors below the age of 30 years.
      • Out of the 75 selected authors, 38 are females and 37 are males.
      • During mentorship, the selected authors will receive a scholarship of ₹50,000 per month for a period of six months.
      • Further, a royalty of 10% will be payable to the authors on successful publications of their books.

  1. Tamil Nadu government has launched the CM Dashboard monitoring system that will enable Chief Minister M K Stalin to get real-time information on important matters including rainfall patterns, water storage levels in reservoirs and health-related among others.
      • TN CM MK Stalin also launched ‘Meendum Manjappai’ scheme to promote the use of cloth bags by the public and discourage the use of plastic bags.
  2. Assam Legislative Assembly has passed the amendment bill to the Cattle Preservation Act, 2021 to further strengthen the Act.
      • The new additions will ease transportation of cattle for agricultural purposes and ensure stringent punishment for cattle smugglers.
      • The Assam Cattle Preservation Bill, 2021 was passed in the state assembly earlier this year replacing the Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 1950.
  3. The 126-year-old Saint Luke’s Church has been renovated and restored in Srinagar under the Smart City Programme.
      • The church has been reopened after a long gap of 35 years.

Agricultural and Rural Development

  1. Central Govt has imposed the stock-holding limits on soymeal in a bid to control prices.
      • The Department of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution mandated soymeal millers, processors or plants to hold stocks only up to 90 days of production.
      • Traders and trading companies can hold only up to 160 tonnes of soymeal with a defined and declared storage location.
      • The stock-holding limits will be in place till June 30, 2022.
      • The limits were imposed after amending the Essential Commodities Act of 1955 to include soymeal in the category.
      • Soymeal is derived from crushing soybeans and is the main ingredient of poultry feed meal.

  1. INS Khukri, the first of the indigenously built missile corvettes, was decommissioned after 32 years of service.
      • The corvette was built by the Mazagon Dock shipbuilders in 1989.
      • It had the distinction of being part of both the Western and Eastern Fleets.
  2. DRDO has successfully conducted the flight test of indigenously developed High-speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) Abhyas from Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast in Odisha.
      • Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), Bengaluru based DRDO laboratory along with other DRDO laboratories has developed this indigenous unmanned aerial target system to meet the requirement of aerial targets of Indian Armed Forces.

  1. SEBI has signed the Enhanced Multilateral-Memorandum of Understanding (EM-MoU) of the International Organization of Securities Commissions.
      • Purpose of the EMMoU – to expand the range of enforcement powers that signatories may use to safeguard the integrity and stability of markets, protect investors and deter misconduct and fraud.
      • The agreement is expected to increase the effectiveness of the signatories’ investigations and the enforcement of their jurisdictions’ laws and regulations.
      • IOSCO had begun the Multilateral MoU (MMoU) in 2002.
      • SEBI is already a signatory to M-MoU since 2003.
  2. India’s GMR Group has won the contract to develop and operate the Kualanamu International Airport in Medan (located in Sumatra province), Indonesia.
      • It will tie up with state-owned Angkasa Pura 2 (AP2), which handles 15 airports in the country including at capital Jakarta.
      • GMR is the largest private airport operator in Asia and fourth largest globally.
