  1. On the 75th Independence Day, beta version of the DigiYatra app was launched at the Delhi Airport to help domestic flyers fly from two locations with the help of an e-gate boarding system.
      • ‘DigiYatra’ is a Biometric Enabled Seamless Travel Experience (BEST) based on Facial Recognition Technology. It aims to provide a paperless and seamless travel experience to the passengers.
      • With this technology, passengers’ entry would be automatically processed based on the facial recognition system at all checkpoints including entry into the airport, security check areas, aircraft boarding, etc.
  2. Edelweiss General Insurance has partnered with the Union Health Ministry to help create digital health IDs for all in the country.
      • ’ABHA’ or the Ayushman Bharat Health Account is a 14-digit number that helps users to share and access their health records digitally with registered healthcare providers.
      • The National Health Authority (NHA) is the apex body responsible for implementing this program under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.

  1. Jammu and Kashmir has launched the Village Defence Guards scheme.
      • Under the scheme, the Village Defence Guards shall be charged with the responsibility of protecting community installations and infrastructure facilities within the defined areas of their village.
      • Village Defence Guards would conduct night and day patrolling in a systematic manner.
  2. UK government has signed an MOU with the Jharkhand to create a new scholarship programme for the marginalized and under-represented communities from the state.
      • The Chevening Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda (MGJSM) scholarship will offer full financial support to five scholars from Jharkhand to pursue a one-year master’s in the UK.
      • The Chevening MGJSM Scholarships will be offered annually from 2023.
      • Separately, UK has also launched the Jharkhand module of the Climate Resilience Information System and Planning (CRISP-M) tool for better management and planning of the disaster resilience.
      • The CRISP-M tool is a web and mobile phone-based geographic information system that will support the planning, implementation and monitoring of the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA scheme.
      • It was developed as part of the UK Government’s Infrastructure for Climate Resilient Growth programme in India.
  3. Tamil Nadu government has signed five MOUs for an investment worth Rs 2,250 crore in the footwear and leather sector.
      • Chief Minister M K Stalin also unveiled the ‘Tamil Nadu Footwear and Leather Products Policy 2022’.
      • The policy is aimed at attracting Rs 20,000 crore investment in the leather sector by 2025 and in creating employment opportunities to two lakh people.
  4. Norway’s Climate Investment Fund has signed an agreement to acquire 49% stake in a 420 MW solar power plant named Thar Surya 1 in Rajasthan for Rs 280 crores approx.
      • The plant has been developed by the Enel Green Power (an Italian company).
      • In a move to bolster participation against climate change, Norway on Monday announced a large solar power investment in India with an agreement to take a 49 per cent stake in a solar power plant in Rajasthan developed by Italian Enel
  5. Kerala has launched an online monitoring system for medicines to keep track of availability and distribution of medicines in government-run medical institutions in the state.

  1. Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE) has signed an MOU with National Health Authority (NHA) for providing a comprehensive medical package to transgender persons under Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY.
      • MoSJE will fund Rs 5 lakh insurance cover per transgender beneficiary per annum.

International News

  1. SCO Defence Ministers’ Meeting was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
      • External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar also held bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the SCO FMM with counterparts from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and with the Secretary General of the SCO.
  2. Germany has inaugurated a railway line powered entirely by hydrogen.
      • A fleet of 14 trains provided by French industrial giant Alstom to the German state Lower Saxony has replaced diesel locomotives on the 100 kilometres of track connecting the cities of Cuxhaven, Bremerhaven, Bremervoerde and Buxtehude near Hamburg.

  1. Punjab National Bank (PNB) has launched a new facility of overdraft against fixed deposits on the unified mobile banking application PNB One.
      • PNB also launched a pre-qualified credit card facility (consisting of an insurance plan) for its accountholders.
      • Customers will be able to apply through PNB One, website or Internet Banking Service (IBS) for this service. PNB will be offering this service under two platforms — RuPay and Visa.
  2. Non-life insurer Universal Sompo General Insurance has partnered with Chennai-based Repco Home Finance Ltd for providing an insurance cover for the home loans.
      • It provides security to home financier’s customers by insuring their home loans in the event of an unfortunate event during the repayment term of the loan.
