  1. Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has formulated a scheme “SMILE – Support for Marginalized Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise”.
      • It includes a sub-scheme – ‘Central Sector Scheme for Comprehensive Rehabilitation of persons engaged in begging’.
      • The focus of the scheme is extensively on rehabilitation, provision of medical facilities, counselling, basic documentation, education, skill development, economic linkages and so on for the people engaged in begging.
      • Duration: 2021- 22 to 2025-26 (5 years)
      • Funds requirement: Rs 182 Crore
      • Coverage: approximate 60,000 poorest persons would be benefited.
      • Implementation: It will be implemented with the support of State/UT Governments/Local Urban Bodies, Voluntary Organizations, Community Based Organizations (CBOs) , institutions and others.
      • Benefits to the beggars:
        • Providing existing shelter homes to beggars.
        • Set up new dedicated shelter homes in case of non-availability of existing shelter homes.
      • The scheme has been implemented in the selected 10 cities on pilot basis having large concentrations of the Beggar community.
  2. Ministry of Culture has identified 3 monuments of Andhra Pradesh as “Adarsh Smarak” for providing additional facilities.
      • Monuments – Nagarjunakonda, Buddhist Remains at Salihundam, and Veerabhadra Temple at Lepakshi
      • The Adarsh Smarak Scheme was launched in 2014 by the Ministry of Culture for providing improved visitor amenities in historical and archaeological monuments/sites
      • Under this scheme improved visitor amenities are provided to attract tourists.
      • The monuments included in the list would have all the tourist facilities as per international standards including wi-fi, signages, security, encroachment free area, interpretation centres, etc.
  3. Rudreswara Temple, (also known as the Ramappa Temple) at Palampet, Telangana has been inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage list.
      • It is the 39th World Heritage Site of India.
  4. Kandla Special Economic Zone (KASEZ), the oldest export zone in the country, has become the “first green industrial city” in India.
      • IGBC Platinum rating has been awarded for ‘Green master planning, policy initiatives and implementation of green infrastructure’ by CII’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
  5. Ministry of Science & Technology will set up a first-of-its-kind “Centre for Bio-Resources and Sustainable Development as a Centre of Excellence” at Kimin, district Papum Pare in Arunachal Pradesh.
      • This centre allows the entire North Eastern Region to use its fruit and organic food potential to the maximum extent.
      • It will help in exploring many vast areas and to find hitherto lesser known or unknown new species including diverse habitats and diverse flora.
      • It has been built at a cost of nearly Rs. 50 crores.
      • The Department of Biotechnology funded the project.
  6. Parliament has passed the National Institutes of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management Bill, 2021.
      • With the passing of this bill, National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) Kundali (Haryana) and Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT) Thanjabur (Tamil Nadu) became Institutions of National Importance (INI).
      • These institutes are under Ministry of Food Processing Industries.
  7. Dholavira (a Harappan city) in Gujarat has become the 40th World Heritage Site of India.
      • Now, India has become a brown country. India has entered the super 40 club.
      • Recently, China also got its 56th World Heritage Site in Quanzhou.
      • At present, only Italy and China have more than 50 heritage sites.
      • Spain, France and Germany are the other three countries, besides India, that have heritages sites between 40 to 49.
  8. Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah has launched the Green Sohra Afforestation Campaign at Sohra (Cherrapunji), Meghalaya during his visit to Meghalaya.
      • Shri Amit Shah also inaugurated the Greater Sohra Water Supply Scheme worth ₹25 crore to supply pure drinking water to every household.
      • The Home Minister gave the “Evergreen Northeast” slogan, underlining the importance of afforestation and tree plantation.
      • Central Government has so far allocated Rs.400 crore and as the work progresses further allocations will be made.
  9. ISRO’s space-themed merchandise programme in partnership with industry has taken off with multiple companies on board.
      • Under the program, products such as scale models, T-shirts, mugs, space-themed educational games, science toys, and more, which are based on space themes will be sold.
      • Purpose – this brand promotion exercise can play a ”game-changing” role in creating awareness and kindling interest of students, children and public, in the domain of space science & technology.
      • Progress so far – 8 companies have so far registered with ISRO on a non-exclusive basis with a registration fee regarding customised ISRO-theme based articles / models.

  1. Ladakh has collaborated with Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) to boost exports of agricultural produce from Ladakh and enhance farmers’ incomes.
      • The initiative will be executed in association with officials of the Union territory as well as the Defence Institute of High-Altitude Research (DIHAR).
      • APEDA would provide technical assistance for building the capacity of stakeholder including entrepreneurs, officials, farmers, branding and marketing of Ladakhi products and making Ladakh an ‘organic’ region by 2025.
  2. Arunachal Pradesh government has signed an agreement with the Indian Institute of Management-Shillong to foster better financial and policy management aimed at improving livelihoods.
      • IIM-Shillong will be the knowledge partner and think-tank of the state.
  3. Corteva Agriscience (global agricultural firm) has signed a three-year project with the 2030 Water Resources Group (2030 WRG) hosted by the World Bank Group, to promote sustainable rice cultivation in 40,000 acres in Uttar Pradesh.
      • The project aims to work towards transforming 40,000 acres of land from traditional methods of transplanting rice to the Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) technique.
      • Corteva will co-lead the project as the technology and knowledge partner for DSR.

  2. NASA had selected SpaceX to launch Europa Clipper mission.
      • The Europa Clipper Mission is a planned voyage to Jupiter’s icy moon Europa.
      • The Europa Clipper mission will launch in October 2024 on a Falcon Heavy rocket from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, with the total contract worth $178 million.

  1. The Central government has amended the Companies (Incorporation) Rules, 2014 pertaining to incorporation of companies under the Companies Act, 2013 and the changes will come into effect from September 1.
      • In the rules, changes have been made with respect to allotment of a new name to an existing company under Section 16 of the Act.
      • Section 16 relates to rectification of a company name subject to various conditions, including that the government may direct changing a firm’s name if it is identical with or too nearly resembles the name of an existing company.
      • Now, the ministry has put in place new rules wherein the tag of ‘ORDNC’ (Order of Regional Director Not Complied) would be attached to the name of the company that does not comply with the direction within the specified period.
  2. RBI has raised the limit of personal loan amount that can be granted by banks to directors of other banks and their families to ₹5 crore from ₹25 lakh.
