  1. Central government is looking to set up a committee as a part of the National Employment Policy (NEP) to prepare a roadmap to improve job opportunities in the country.
  2. Central govt has formed a National Steering Committee, chaired by Dharmendra Pradhan (Union Education minister), for implementing the NIPUN Bharat Mission.
      • The Vice-Chairperson of this committee is Annpurna Devi (MoS – Education).
      • The Committee will focus on the following issues –
        • Providing access and retaining children in foundational years of schooling
        • Teacher capacity building
        • Development of high quality and diversified Student and Teacher Resources/Learning Materials
        • Tracking the progress of each child in achieving learning outcome
  3. First direct flight between Shillong (Meghalaya) – Dibrugarh (Assam) route was flagged off under the Regional Connectivity Scheme named UDAN.
      • Shillong is one of the highest & wettest places in the world. Shillong is also known as Scotland of East.
      • Indigo will operate the airlines on this route.
  4. About UDAN: –

      • The Regional Connectivity Scheme – Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik – was launched in 2016.
      • The scheme is operational for a period of 10 years. It develops airports in un-served and underserved areas in India.
      • For this, financial assistance is given by Central and State governments, along with airport operators (like MIAL, Adani Airports, GMR etc.)
      • As of October 26, 2021, 389 routes and 62 airports (including 5 heliports and 2 water aerodromes) have been operationalized under the UDAN scheme.
      • Phases of UDAN scheme –
        • UDAN 1.0 – Under this phase, 5 airlines companies were awarded 128 flight routes to 70 airports (including 36 newly made operational airports).
        • UDAN 2.0 – In 2018, the Ministry of Civil Aviation announced 73 underserved and unserved airports. For the first time, helipads were also connected under phase 2 of the UDAN scheme.
        • UDAN 3.0 – Inclusion of Tourism Routes under UDAN 3 in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism.
          • nclusion of Seaplanes for connecting Water Aerodromes.
          • Bringing in a number of routes in the North-East Region under the ambit of UDAN.
        • UDAN 4.0 – In 2020, 78 new routes were approved. Kavaratti, Agatti, and Minicoy islands of Lakshadweep will be connected by the new routes of UDAN 4.0.
          • In 2021, UDAN 4.1 bidding process was launched.
          • UDAN 4.1 focuses on connecting smaller airports, along with special helicopter and seaplane routes.
  5. National Tribal Dance Festival has been organized in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
      • The three-day festival will host artists belonging to diverse tribal communities from countries, including Uzbekistan, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Syria, Mali, Palestine, and Kingdom of Eswatini.
      • The artists from tribal areas of Bastar, Dantewada, Koriya, Korba, Bilaspur, Gariabandh, Mainpur, Dhura, Dhamtari, Surguja and Jashpur in Chhattisgarh will present their own distinctive history, culture and traditions.
      • The first edition of this festival was held in 2019.
  6. Bangladesh Navy Chief Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal has visited to India to foster relations in the Indian Ocean Region.
  7. Union Minister of Education and Skill development & Entrepreneurship has launched the 2nd phase of Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship.
      • The fellowship is implemented under SANKALP programme of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
      • MGNF (Phase 1) –Launched with IIM Bangalore as academic partner. Currently 69 fellows are deployed in 69 districts across 6 states.
      • MGNF (Phase 2) –661 fellowships will be deployed. 8 more IIMs have been added as the academic partners.
  8. Ministry of Textiles has approved the Pilot Project for skilling of personnel engaged in Designing and Commissioning of geo-textiles in infrastructure projects.
      • Geo-textiles is a strong fabric used in construction for preventing soil erosion and stabilizes loose soil.
      • The project will be conducted concurrently by Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee.
      • Each of these institutes will conduct training for two batches, consisting of 75-100 candidates.

  1. Ministry of Power has launched the Green Day-Ahead Market (GDAM) to ensure transparent, flexible, competitive, and efficient trade in green energy.
      • It is a step towards decreasing imports of fossil fuel, and increasing the use of green hydrogen.
      • The platform will enable fair market-based competitive prices.
      • Renewable energy generators can sell power on this platform on effective prices and distributors can sell their surplus power here.

  1. Hyderabad-based VEM Technologies signed an MoU with the Telangana government to set up an integrated defence systems facility at Yelgoi in Telangana.
  2. Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi (Amethi-based flying training institute) and Drone Destination have signed an initial pact with the Haryana Government’s DRIISHYA initiative to commence drone training in Haryana.
      • The Drone Imaging and Information Service of Haryana Ltd (DRIISHYA) initiative aims at speedy implementation of various types of surveys and imaging work using drones as manual surveys which are conducted at regular intervals are very time consuming, costly and require more manpower.
  3. Uttar Pradesh government has announced that the Faizabad railway junction would be renamed Ayodhya Cantt.
  4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated nine medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh.
      • The medical colleges are located in Siddharthnagar, Etah, Hardoi, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur, Deoria, Ghazipur, Mirzapur and Jaunpur districts.

  1. China has successfully launched the Shijian-21 satellite on a Long March-3B carrier rocket to test and verify space debris mitigation technologies.
      • It was launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in southwest China’s Sichuan Province.
  2. French launch provider Arianespace launched the Ariane 5 rocket from the Guiana Space Center in Kourou, French Guiana.
      • The Ariane 5 rocket carried the SES-17 and Syracuse 4A communications satellites for SES (Luxembourg satellite company) and France’s Ministry of Defense, respectively.
  3. US Navy and US Army tested hypersonic weapon component prototypes that will inform development of new weapons.
  4. Saudi Arabia, has launched a National Infrastructure Fund to develop up to 200 billion riyals ($53 billion) worth of infrastructure projects over the next decade.
      • The plan has been launched on the advice of the world’s largest fund manager BlackRock.
  5. 18th ASEAN-India Summit will be virtually organized on October 28, 2021.

  1. Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network (GCRMN), in association with the UNEP, has released the “Status of Coral Reefs of the World 2020”.
      • As per this report, 14% of the world’s coral reef has been lost in the last 10 years (2009-18) due to the global warming.
      • Eastern Tropical Pacific region suffered 95% of this loss whereas East Asia suffered only 5% of it.
      • Coral reefs cover only 0.2% of the seafloor. They support at least 25% of marine species.
      • The value of goods and services provided by coral reefs is estimated at US $2.7 trillion per year, including US $36 billion in coral reef tourism.
      • The report assesses the situation of coral reefs in 73 countries for a period of 40 years (from 1978 to 2019).
