      • The Bill aims to replace the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005 to make the zones (covered under the act) more compliant with the WTO norms.
      • The Special Economic Zone will now be called as Development Hub.
      • Under the new DESH Act, any new manufacturing unit set up in the development hub is likely to attract a 15% corporation tax for 10 years.
      • This provision can be extended to existing units which expand their capacity by 50% or reinvest 50% of their net worth.
      • The units in the Development Hubs can auto-renewal of licenses. The developers of this zones will get the status of infrastructure developers.
  6. Department of Science and Technology, in collaboration with IIT-Kanpur’s Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC), has launched the NIRMAN Accelerator Program.
      • Purpose – to help various start-ups and innovators overcome business challenges from their prototype to market journey.
      • Under the programme, focus will be on manufacturing start-ups and innovators engaged in healthcare and agriculture domains.
      • A total of 15 start-ups will be selected under the program, where they will be granted the opportunity to accelerate their product journey from lab to market.
      • The best performing start-ups among the cohort of 15 start-ups will receive a cash award of up to Rs 10 Lakhs.
      • Funding support of Rs 50 lakhs will be provided for the selected start-ups after program completion.

      • Total corpus of the AIF – Rs 1 lakh crore
      • The government has also proposed to set up 10,000 farmer producer organizations through NABARD.
  2. India produces the largest quantity of mangoes in the world and also supplies more than 50% of these tropical fruits across the globe.
      • Some of the most popular varieties of Mangoes in India are Himsagar, Kesar, Chausa, Neelum, Alphonso and Dasheri among others.
      • According to historians, mangoes were first cultivated in India around 5,000 years ago.
      • Mango is grown in parts of Asia to the Middle East and some parts of South America and East Africa.
      • World’s most costliest mango named Miyazaki, worth Rs 2.7 lakh per kg, is cultivated in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

International News

  1. Zimbabwe has launched gold coins to be sold to the public to tackle the runaway inflation (or hyperinflation) that has further destabilized the country’s unstable currency.
      • The coins will be used like liquid cash.
      • The price of the coins will be determined by the international market rate for an ounce of gold, plus 5% for the cost of producing the coin.
      • The gold coins are named as ‘Mosi oa Tunya’ coin.

Banking and Economy

  1. Central government has extended the exemption given to masur dal, a lentil, from agriculture and infrastructure development cess when imported into India, by another six months, till March 2023.
      • The current exemption from the cess was to expire by the end of September 2022.
  2. Tech Mahindra and Mahindra University have signed an MOU to set up a new ‘Makers Lab’ for research and development.
      • The lab will work in areas such as quantum computing and explainable artificial intelligence (AI) that presents data in a manner that can be understood by humans, and Metaverse, a virtual world where people can connect through their digital avatars.
  3. Employee’s State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has released the “Payroll reporting in India: An Employment Perspective- May 2022”.
      • As per the report, around 14.93 lakh new members have joined the ESIC in May 2022.
      • The gross new enrolments with ESIC increased to 1.49 crores in 2021-22.

  1. Central govt has appointed Sanjay Kumar Jain (joint secretary to the Department of Public Enterprises) as an interim CEO of the National Land Management Corporation (NLMC).
      • NLMC was incorporated as a wholly-owned Government of India company with an initial authorised share capital of Rs 5,000 crore and paid-up share capital of Rs 150 crore.
