- 10th India-Brazil-South Africa Dialogue Forum (IBSA) Trilateral Ministerial Commission (ITMC) meeting took place in New York.
- The IBSA Fund is a special feature of IBSA collaboration.
- It has allocated over $44 million for supporting 39 South-South cooperation development projects in 35 partner countries with the majority being Least Developed Countries.
- India is the incumbent IBSA Chair and will be hosting the 6th IBSA Summit on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in November 2022.

- The programme, Samsung Innovation Campus, aims to upskill over 3,000 unemployed youth from 18-25 years of age in future technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, Big Data and Coding & Programming.
- Classroom and the online training will be given and complete their hands-on capstone project work in their selected technology areas from among Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Big Data, and Coding & Programming.
- This program will be executed by ESSCI, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) approved entity, through its nationwide network of approved training and education partners.
- Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has developed a microprocessor-controlled knee (MPK) which is ten times cheaper against imported ones.
- India will import its first flex-fuel vehicle, which can run on ethanol blended petrol and battery next month from Brazil.
- The Flex Fuel Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FFV-SHEV) will be used as a pilot to assess its performance in terms of reduced carbon emissions.
- In Brazil, nearly 85% of the cars sold run on flex-fuel.
- India’s first and world’s third Forest University will be established in Telangana.
- The Forestry Universities Act 2022 was approved by the Telangana Assembly.
- This university will be created by expanding the existing Forestry College and Research Institute (FCRI) in Hyderabad into a full-fledged university.
- Globally, it will be the third University of Forestry after Russia and China.

- Central Govt has launched the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Expenditure for 2022-23 (as announced in the Union Budget 2022-23).
- The Union Budget allocated Rs 1 lakh crore for the scheme.
- This time, the govt has allocated Rs 3000 crores for the states to undertake the expenditure on Optical Fibre Cable infrastructure.
- The assistance is given as a 50-year interest-free loan.

- Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Authority (APEDA) has facilitated the export of first consignment of plant-based meat products under Vegan food category from Nadiad in Kheda district in Gujarat to California, USA.
- The shipment has vegan food products like momos, mini samosas, patties, nuggets, spring rolls, burgers, etc.
- The APEDA has planned to promote a variety of vegan foods products, including pancake, snacks, cheese, etc, to the countries of Australia, Israel, New Zealand and others in coming months.
- APEDA has recognized 220 labs across India to provide services of testing a wide range of products to exporters.
Defence News
- Indian Army and the Defence Geoinformatics and Research Establishment (DGRE) have jointly installed the first of its kind Avalanche Monitoring Radar in north Sikkim.
- This radar has the capability to detect avalanches within three seconds of their triggering and will assist in saving life of troops and civilians as also vehicles in super high- altitude areas.
- The radar is also linked to an alarm system enabling automatic control and warning measures in case an avalanche is triggered.
International News
- The Foreign Ministers of Australia, India and Japan and the Secretary of State of the United States have signed the Guidelines for the ‘Quad Partnership on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) in the Indo-Pacific’ in New York.
- This partnership was announced by Quad Leaders in Tokyo in May 2022, as part of a shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific that is inclusive and resilient.
- The guidelines call for zero tolerance for inaction on tackling Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (SEAH).
- Quad partners will meet twice a year to share lessons and operational updates and will conduct at least one scenario-based table-top exercise to improve preparedness, coordination and interoperability in the case of disaster management.
- A new type of crystal was discovered by researchers in China from the near side of the Moon.
- The newly discovered crystal was named Changesite-(Y) after the Chinese moon goddess Chang’e.
- International Space Station has welcomed three new residents – American Frank Rubio along with Russians Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitri Petelin.

Banking and Economy
- The banking system liquidity situation has turned into a deficit mode of Rs 21,873 crore approx. in September, for the first time since May 2019.
- In comparison to this, the liquidity surplus was to the tune of Rs 8 lakh crore in November 2021.
- Kolkata-based UCO Bank has received the RBI’s approval to open a special vostro account with Gazprombank of Russia for trade settlement in Indian rupees.
- The UCO Bank is the first bank to receive RBI’s approval following the RBI’s decision to allow Indian banks to settle trade in Indian currency in July.
- Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released data on Annual Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), which has nearly doubled to $83.6 billion.
- The FDI inflows stood at $45.15 billion in 2014-2015. The year 2021-22 recorded the highest ever FDI at $83.6 billion.
- This FDI has come from 101 countries, which has been invested across 31 states and UTs and 57 sectors in the country.
- India plans to attract $100 billion FDI in the current financial year.
- HDFC Life Insurance and HDFC Ergo General Insurance Company have launched a term insurance plan named as Click2Protect Optima Secure to provide the all-round benefits of health and life insurance to the customers.
