  1. Solvay (a Belgium-based chemical company) has partnered with UNESCO to launch a STEM education program in Asia.
      • This 3-year partnership aims at engaging high schoolers and graduate students from India, Indonesia and South Korea to find solutions to national and regional environmental issues through science.
      • The program will be focused on “Sustainable living for one planet” theme.
  2. Nigeria’s central bank has launched the “AfriGo”- a domestic card to rival foreign cards like Mastercard and Visa and become a cashless society and save the country’s foreign transaction fees.
      • Nigeria has joined China, Russia, India and Turkey in launching a domestic card scheme. AfriGo is owned by CBN and Nigerian banks.

  1. National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and HDFC Life Insurance have partnered to allow the HDFC customers to pay their premiums by using the UPI 123PAY service.
      • UPI 123PAY is a payment facility which allows the customers to make payments with or without an internet connection by using IVR (Interactive Voice Response) services on UPI 123PAY.
      • Customers can avail this service in various regional languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Kannada, Tamil, etc.
      • UPI 123PAY can be used through four modes, which are voice payments via IVR numbers, proximity sound-based payments, missed call-based payment ways, and app-based scan and pay on feature phones.
      • Limits –
        • Per day transactions limit is Rs 1,00,000.
        • Per transaction limit is Rs 5000 on UPI 123pay.

  1. Godrej Agrovet Ltd. has launched Samadhan initiative, a one stop solution centre for oil palm farmers, under its Oil Palm business.
      • The initiative aims at helping farmers in optimising their yields by adopting latest agricultural techniques and boosting their productivity.
      • As a part of the Samadhan initiative, Godrej Agrovet will establish 50 Samadhan centers across the India by 2027 to support the planting of ~2,000 hectares of oil palm.
      • The company has become the first in the country to be awarded a verification Certification under the Indian Palm Oil Sustainability (IPOS) Framework.
      • The IPOS Framework is established by the Solvent Extractors Association of India with assistance from Solidaridad Network, the Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research, and Society for Promotion of Oil Palm Research and Development (SOPOPRAD).
      • Godrej Agrovet Ltd. aims to add 60,000 hectares of additional oil palm plantations in the next 5 years under the National Mission on Edible Oil – Oil Palm (NMEO-OP).
