  1. Ministry of Minority Affairs has organised ‘Mera Watan Mera Chaman’ Mushaira in New Delhi as part of Amrit Mahotsav of 75th Year of India’s Independence.
      • The Minority Affairs Ministry will organise the “Mera Watan, Mera Chaman” Mushairas and Kavi Sammelans across the country till 2023.
      • The Mushaira supports the “Ek Bharat- Shrestha Bharat”.
      • The scheme was launched in 2015.
  2. Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, has announced to set up a Skill Institute on Marine Studies at Guwahati in Assam under Indian Maritime University, Chennai.
      • This Government declared 20 waterways as National Waterways in 2016.

  1. Punjab has launched ‘Mera Kaam Mera Maan’ scheme to enhance the skills and employability of unemployed youth in their chosen field.
      • The scheme provides an employment assistance allowance of Rs 2500 per month for a period of 12 months from the start of the training course under the short-term skill training programmes in the Punjab Skill Development Mission training centres.
      • Punjab had earlier launched ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar te Karobar Mission’ in 2017.
  2. Telangana govt has announced to maintain Former Indian Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao’s home as a museum.
      • All his ancestral village – Vangara in Telangana’s Karimnagar district will be transformed into a tourism site on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of PV Narasimha Rao.
  3. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has flagged off Mobile ATM Van of Tripura State Co-Operative Bank Ltd in Tripura.
      • The minister claimed that 55% Jan-Dhan account holders are women and 67% belong to rural and semi-urban areas.
  4. French development agency AFD has announced to provide funding to the Rajasthan Forestry and Bio-development Project.
      • The project has provisions for promoting eco-tourism and other sustainable income generation activities in the target villages with assistance to nearly 1,200 self-help groups.
      • The project will also work on afforestation and biodiversity conservation.
      • A bio-diversity park is also proposed to be developed in Bharatpur as part of the project.
  5. During his visit to UP, President Ram Nath Kovind unveiled the statue of Dr Sampurnanand, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
      • He also inaugurated an auditorium named after him at the U.P. Sainik School in Lucknow.
      • Mr. Kovind will lay the foundation stone for the Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH Vishwavidyalaya and inaugurate the Mahayogi Gorakhnath Vishwavidyalaya at Gorakhpur.

  1. Mahindra Defence Systems Limited (MDS) had bagged a contract worth ₹1,349.95 crore for manufacturing of Integrated Anti-Submarine Warfare Defence Suite (IADS) for modern warships of Indian Navy.
      • IADS is designed to detect and protect warships from underwater threats.

      • An agreement was signed between the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and New York University Abu Dhabi to establish a Visiting Professorship in Social Science at NYUAD.
      • NYUAD is a portal campus of New York University serving as a private liberal arts college in Abu Dhabi.

International News

  1. UN’s Universal Postal Union (UPU) has banned the British stamps from being used on the Chagos archipelago, which is a disputed group of island in the Indian Ocean Region.
      • The Chagos archipelago is disputed between UK and Mauritius.
      • Although Mauritius became independent in 1968, the Chagos archipelago remained under British control. Since then, the dispute is ongoing between UK and Mauritius.

      • The report highlights that India has the potential to contribute $500 billion in annual economic impact to the global economy by 2030.

  1. SIDBI has provided the first approval under SIDBI Cluster Development Fund (SCDF) to the Tamil Nadu.
      • SIDBI Cluster Development Fund targets MSMEs / Artisans in clusters and budding entrepreneurs to help them in providing funding.
  2. HCL Foundation has launched ‘My e-Haat’ portal to empower artisans and strengthen the value chain of the handicraft sector in the country.
      • My E-Haat initiative will be a unique model (A2C) where artisans will connect with the customer directly.
  3. Jana Small Finance Bank has partnered with HCBL Co-operative Bank and Mysore Merchants Co-operative Bank to provide them its digital infrastructure and payments services under the bank sponsorship programme.
      • Under the bank sponsorship programme, the RBI has permitted Core Banking Solution (CBS) enabled co-operative banks to issue ATM cards or ATM-cum debit cards to its customers in association with the sponsor bank.
      • This is for the first time that Jana SFB has tied up with a co-operative bank to provide IMPS services to facilitate seamless payment options to its customers.
  4. RBI has announced to extend the Payments Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF) Scheme to the street vendors covered under the PM Svanidhi scheme (a Central Sector Scheme).
      • The Payments Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF) Scheme was launched by the RBI in January, 2021.
      • The objective of the scheme was to encourage deployment of Points of Sale (PoS) infrastructure (both physical and digital modes) in tier-3 to tier-6 centres and north eastern states.
      • Now, the beneficiaries of PM Svanidhi scheme from tier 1 and 2 cities will be covered under the PIDF scheme and street vendors in tier-3 to tier-6 centres will continue to be covered under the Scheme.

  1. September will be celebrated as the Thematic Poshan Maah on the occasion of 75th anniversary of Indian independence (Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav).
      • The entire month has been subdivided into weekly themes for a focused and assimilated approach towards improving Holistic Nutrition.
      • Themes of each week:-
        • First – Plantation Activity as “Poshan Vatika” from September 1-7.
        • Second – Yoga and AYUSH for nutrition from September 8 to 15.
        • Third – Distribution of ‘Regional Nutrition Kit’ to Anganwadi beneficiaries of High Burdened Districts from 16-23 September.
        • Fourth – Identification of SAM (Severely Acute Malnourished) children and distribution of nutritious food from 24-30 September.
      • During the month, a special drive for Height and Weight Measurement for children aged 6 years and below will be conducted.
      • Distribution of Nutrition Kits comprising of regional nutritious food including Sukadi-Gujrat, Panjiri- Punjab, Sattu- Bihar, Chikki- Maharashtra will take place.
  2. Need of the POSHAN Abhiyan:

      • According to Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations’ report, ‘The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2020, 189.2 million people or 14% of India’s population is undernourished.
      • 34.7% of the children aged under five in India are stunted, while 20% suffer from wasting.
      • The POSHAN Abhiyaan aims to make India a malnutrition-free country by 2022.
      • The Abhiyaan aims to reduce stunting in children from 38.4% to 25% by 2022.
