  1. DRDO has developed single crystal blade technology and supplied 60 of such blades to the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) as part of their indigenous helicopter development programme for helicopter engine application.
      • It is part of a programme taken up by the Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), a laboratory of the DRDO.
      • Very few countries such as the U.S., the U.K., France and Russia have the capability to design and manufacture such single crystal components.

  1. IIT-Guwahati and the North East Frontier Railway have signed an MoU to collaborate for improving maintenance and operations of train running in the region and other fields.

  2. Union Cabinet has approved the signing and ratification of an MoU between India and UK for on Customs Cooperation and Mutual Administrative Assistance in Customs Matters.
      • Both countries will try to investigate and prevent Customs related offences. Also, the agreement will facilitate trade and ensure efficient clearance of goods traded between the countries.
      • The Agreement would provide a legal framework for sharing of information and intelligence between the Customs authorities of the two countries.

International News

  1. A UN-led global immunization strategy was unveiled to reach more than 50 million children who have missed vaccines against measles and other diseases because of COVID-19 disruption.
      • This strategy was launched in partnership with WHO, UNICEF and the vaccine alliance Gavi.
  2. Blue Nature Alliance is a global partnership founded and led by Conservation International, Pew Charitable Trusts, Global Environment Facility (GEF), Minderoo Foundation and Rob & Melani Walton Foundation.
      • The alliance will protect 18 million square kilometre of the ocean over the next 5 years. This is equivalent to 5% of the World’s Ocean.
      • By 2030, the alliance aims to conserve at least 30% of the world’s ocean.
      • Initially, the alliance is targeting seven ocean locations around Antarctica, Fiji, Canada, the Seychelles, Palau, the Western Indian Ocean and Tristan da Cunha, an island in the South Atlantic Ocean.
      • Those areas cover over 2.5 million square miles in total — more than a third of the overall goal.
  3. A new U.S. spy satellite was launched into space on the mightiest rocket built by the United Launch Alliance (ULA): the massive Delta IV Heavy.
      • ULA is a 50-50 joint venture between Lockheed Martin and Boeing.
      • ULA has only four remaining Delta IV Heavy rockets in its fleet.
      • The Delta family of rockets also included two single-stick versions: the Delta II and the Delta IV Medium.

      • Purpose – the index ranks countries on the basis of their governance.
      • Total – 104 countries

          • In order to improve governance, India has taken various initiatives like Good Governance Day (Dec 25), Good Governance Index, National e-Governance Index, Right to Information Act, 2005, Make in India program, setting up of NITI Aayog, Lokpal among other initiatives.
      • Parameters – 50 indicators divided into seven pillars:
          • Leadership and foresight.
          • Robust laws and policies.
          • Strong institutions.
          • Financial stewardship.
          • Attractive marketplace.

  1. Paytm has launched India’s first Wealth Community based on video.
      • It will enable users to attend live sessions conducted by subject matter experts across an array of wealth topics like stocks, F&O, IPO, ETFs, mutual funds, gold, fixed income, and personal finance.
  2. SBI Mutual Fund has launched SBI Nifty Next 50 Index Fund, an open-ended index scheme which would replicate the performance of the Nifty Next 50 Index.
      • This new scheme would be suitable for investors who are seeking long term capital appreciation, investment in securities covered by Nifty Next 50 Index and gain access to growth of potential market leaders.
      • SBI Nifty Next 50 Index Fund is the second index fund of SBI MF in addition to the existing SBI Nifty Index Fund.
      • The minimum application amount required is of Rs. 5,000 and in multiples of Re. 1 thereafter. Investments can also be done through daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual SIP.
  3. OneWeb has launched another batch of 36 satellites by Arianespace from the Vostochny cosmodrome in Russia.
      • OneWeb is a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications operator, co-owned by Bharti Global and the UK government.
      • Now, OneWeb’s total in-orbit constellation consists of 182 satellites.
      • These would form part of OneWeb’s 648 LEO satellite fleet that will deliver high-speed global connectivity.
      • Earlier this month, OneWeb signed an MoU with the Kazakhstan government and local partners to digitise the latter’s economy, boost connectivity and help the country become a pioneer in satellite communications.
