      • MyGov has more than 18 million registered users.
      • The platform aims to engage govt with citizens for policy formulation and seeks the opinion of people on issues/ topics of public interest and welfare.
      • It also creates awareness about various Government schemes and programs.
      • MyGov has also launched State instances in 14 States.
      • MyGov is part of Digital India Corporation, a Section 8 company under Ministry of Electronics and IT, Government of India.
      • On this occasion, a MyGov Positive Samvaad (webinar) was also organized.
      • Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath launched the ‘MyGov-Meri Sarkar’ portal in the state.

  2. The govt launched the FOSS4GOV (Free and Open Source Software) Innovation Challenge.
      • Through this challenge, the government is inviting innovators, start-ups, working professionals, academics and students in India to develop innovative solutions on Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
      • These applications will be used in Health, Education, Agriculture, Urban Governance etc.
      • The Top winning teams in each of the two categories (CRM and ERP) will receive:
        • 1st winner – Rs 20 Lakhs (CRM) + Rs 20 Lakhs (ERP)
        • 2nd winner – Rs 15 Lakhs (CRM) + Rs 15 Lakhs (ERP)
        • 3rd winner – Rs 10 Lakhs (CRM) + INR 10 Lakhs (ERP)
        • The money will provided as funding to further develop and add features to the selected application, along with certificate from the Ministry of Electronics & IT.
      • Omidyar Network India (ONI) will provide a special prize of Rs 5 lakh in each category for best citizen centric safeguards.
FOSS4GOV
  1. Lohum (which claims to be the world’s leading Li-ion battery player) is going to set up India’s largest Lithium-ion battery factory as well as recycling plant in Greater Noida.
      • The company is based in Noida.
      • It also plans to set up a new recycling facility in Kandla, Gujarat.
  2. C3iHub has been set up by IIT-Kanpur to address the issues of cyber security of cyber physical systems in its entirety.
      • The C3iHub has launched the first cohort of researchers and startups.
      • The first cohort includes a select group of 13 start-ups and 25 R&D principal investigators for incubation and research programs respectively which were selected after a rigorous application process.

State News

  1. Avigna Industrial & Logistics Park, part of Chennai-based Avigna Group, has signed an MoU with Tamil Nadu government to invest ₹837 crore in the state.
  2. Madhya Pradesh govt has launched the Devaranya Yojana (Ayush-based economic upgradation scheme) with the twin objectives of improving people’s health and livelihood of tribal.
      • Through this scheme, the wellness tourism will be promoted in state.
      • For this, medicinal plants should be cultivated in the beautiful plains of the villages.
      • More than 360 new AYUSH health and wellness centres are being established in the state.
      • Ayush Super Specialty Hospitals are being constructed in Indore and Bhopal.

  1. INS Talwar is participating in Exercise Cutlass Express 2021 (July 26-Aug 6, 2021), along the East Coast of Africa, to improve combined maritime law enforcement capacity and increase interoperability between the regional navies.
      • The exercise is an annual maritime exercise conducted to promote national and regional maritime security in East Africa and the Western Indian Ocean.
      • Participants – 12 Eastern African countries, US, UK, India and various international organisations, like International Maritime Organisation (IMO), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Interpol, European Union Naval Force (EUNAVFOR), Critical Maritime Routes Indian Ocean (CRIMARIO) and EUCAP Somalia.
      • Indian Navy is participating in the exercise in a trainer role.
  2. Indian Army’s skiing expedition named as ARMEX-21 was held in the Himalayan mountain ranges between March 10 and July 6.
      • The expedition, called ARMEX-21, was flagged off at Karakoram Pass in Ladakh on March 10 and culminated at Malari in Uttarakhand on July 6 covering 1,660 km in 119 days.
      • During the expedition, the team travelled through several passes of 5,000-6,500 m, glaciers, valleys and rivers.

International News

  1. Scientists from Brazil, Russia, India, and South Africa will be developing Covid-19 vaccines.
      • Department of Science and Technology of Indian Ministry of Science and Technology will support this partnership.
      • The scientists from these countries will undertake repurposing of drugs as well to fight Covid-19.

Banking & Economy

  1. HDFC Bank has partnered with CSC e-Governance India Ltd. to launch an overdraft facility named ‘Dukandar Overdraft Scheme’ for small retailers.
      • CSC e-Governance Services India Limited is a Special Purpose Vehicle (CSC SPV) incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956 by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, to monitor the implementation of the CSC Scheme.
      • The scheme will help shopkeepers and merchants to ease their cash crunch.
      • Retailers operating for a minimum of 3 years are eligible for the scheme by providing 6 months bank statement from any bank.
      • An overdraft limit from a minimum of Rs 50,000 to a maximum of Rs 10 lakhs is available.
      • HDFC doesn’t require collateral security, business financials, and income tax returns from retailers who apply for the scheme.
  2. Central Government has announced to sell 8% stake in Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) through an offer for sale (OFS) for Rs 721 crore approx.
      • After this stake sale, government’s shareholding in the company will come down to 81.81%.
  3. HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank have bought stake in blockchain technology focussed start-up IBBIC Pvt Ltd.
      • HDFC and Axis bought 5.55% stake and ICICI bought 5.44% stake.
      • SBI, Axis Bank, Indian Bank, Yes Bank and IDBI Bank picked up 5.55% stake each.
      • Indian Banks’ Blockchain Infrastructure Co (IBBIC) was incorporated in May, 2021 by almost 15 banks to expand the use of blockchain application in financial sector transactions.
      • The IBBIC is a financial technology company that aims at exploring, building, and implementing distributed ledger technology (DLT) solutions for the Indian financial services sector.
  4. Edtech company Byju’s acquired Great Learning, and Toppr, online education platforms.
      • It is in talks to acquire Gradeup.
  5. Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Ltd has partnered with Common Service Centres (CSCs) under the Digital India Programme to facilitate online payment of electricity bills in rural areas.
      • The collaboration will help rural consumers of the joint venture company between Tata Power and the Odisha government pay their power bills to CSCs and Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs).
