National News

2. Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved the “Bharat New Car Assessment Programme” (Bharat NCAP) – India’s own vehicle safety assessment agency – to start functioning from April 1, 2023.
   • The testing will be done for the motor vehicles of category M1 (motor vehicles used for the carriage of passengers, comprising eight seats, in addition to driver’s seat) with gross vehicle weight less than 3.5 tonnes, manufactured or imported in the country.
   • This system is equivalent to the Star Ratings for Indian cars based on crash tests. It will allocate Star Ratings from 1 to 5 stars.
   • The government aims to reduce 50% road accident deaths by 2024.
3. India will host the G-20 Summit 2023 in Jammu and Kashmir.
   • The J&K government has constituted a five-member high-powered panel, chaired by principal secretary to the housing and urban development department, for overall coordination of G20 meetings.

State News

   • All these launches were made at the Tamil Nadu Advanced Manufacturing Conclave 2022.

1. Vertical Launch Short Range Surface to Air Missile (VL-SRSAM), indigenously developed shipborne weapon system, has been successfully flight tested by the DRDO and Indian Navy off the coast of Chandipur in Odisha.
   • The VL-SRSAM system has been designed to strike at the high-speed airborne targets at the range of 40km to 50km and at an altitude of around 15km.
   • Developers of this missile – Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) and Research Centre Imarat (RCI), both from Hyderabad, and Research & Development Establishment (Engineers), Pune

   • ASKO Maritime is the largest supermarket chain in Norway and aims to achieve zero carbon emission goals in its logistic service by 2026.
   • The vessels were designed by Naval Dynamics, Norway.

1. IIT-Kanpur has signed an MOU with Odisha’s Angul district for restoring land and water resources affected by mining by leveraging modern technologies such as high-resolution satellite remote sensing data and drones.

1. G7 Summit 2022 was held at Schloss Elmau, a century-old retreat in a nature reserve in the Bavarian Alps in Germany.
   • Germany holds the presidency of the G7 in 2022.
   • Theme of G7 – “Progress towards an equitable world”
   • German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has invited India, along with Argentina, Indonesia, Senegal, and South Africa to the 2022 Summit as partner countries.
   • Participating Organizations – United Nations, World Health Organization (WHO), World Trade Organization (WTO), International Monetary Fund (IMF), and World Bank
   • G7 announced $600 billion for global infrastructure programmes in poor countries to compete with China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
     • US will contribute $200 billion and the other G7 countries will contribute $400 billion

3. Russia has announced to supply its Iskander-M missile system (nuclear- capable missiles) to Belarus.
   • The Iskander-M missile has a range of 500 km and it can carry a payload of up to 700 kg. It is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads.

   • Purpose – to empower the small and marginal farmers from the unfavourable price fluctuations due to unpredictable market conditions.
2. Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has launched a new plan called Dhan Sanchay, which is a non-linked, non-participating, individual savings life insurance plan that provides both protection and savings.
   • This plan offers financial assistance to the family in the event of the life assured’s untimely death within the policy’s term.
   • It has four options.

3. ICICI Bank has launched ‘Campus Power’, the one-stop digital platform, to address the needs of the students aspiring to pursue higher education in India and abroad.
   • This first-of-its kind initiative aims to help users to explore financial products matching their needs ranging from bank accounts including overseas accounts, education loan and its tax benefit, foreign exchange solutions, payment solutions, cards, other loans and investments.
4. World Bank’s loan to India for different purposes –
   • Gujarat Outcomes for Accelerated Learning (GOAL) – Loan amount: USD 250 million; Purpose: to improve education results for children
     • This is part of the total USD 500 million loan, which was approved in March 2021, for GOAL.
   • Fisheries sector – Loan amount: USD 150 million; Purpose: to support the recovery of India’s fisheries sector
   • Tamil Nadu’s RIGHTS project – Loan amount: USD 162 million; Purpose: to strengthen the social protection systems to promote inclusion, accessibility, and opportunities for persons with disabilities.
   • Uttarakhand Climate Responsive Rain-fed Farming Project – Loan amount: Rs 1000 crores; Purpose: for promoting rain-fed farming in the state and make agriculture climate-friendly
5. Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has signed an agreement with Galore Networks for collaborative development of 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) products and solutions.
   • It aims at accelerating indigenous development of 5G in line with the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Start-up India’.
   • C-DOT was established in 1984 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, as an autonomous body under the Department of Telecommunications for research and development.
6. RBI has extended the card-on-file (CoF) tokenisation deadline by 3 months to September 30, 2022.
   • Card-on-file (CoF) refers to card information stored by payment gateway and merchants to process future transactions.
   • Tokenisation is the process of replacing actual card details with a unique alternate code called ‘Token’ – thereby enabling more secure transactions.
7. In a first, the Chhattisgarh-based South Eastern Coalfield Limited (SECL), an undertaking of the state-owned Coal India Limited (CIL), has decided to establish into power production in Chhattisgarh.
   • SECL has signed an MoU with the Madhya Pradesh Power Generation Company Limited (MPPGCL) for setting up a 660-MW unit.

Appointments

1. RBI has appointed Venkat Nageswar Chalasani (former Deputy Managing Director of SBI) as a member of the Advisory Committee of SREI Infrastructure Finance Limited (SIFL) and SREI Equipment Finance Limited (SEFL).
   • The boards of SIFL and SEFL were superseded by RBI in October 2021.
   • Afterwards, RBI had appointed a three-member advisory committee to assist Rajneesh Sharma, the administrator of the two crisis-ridden firms.
2. Avinash Kulkarni (CEO of India Resurgence Asset Reconstruction Company) has been appointed as the CEO of India Debt Resolution Company (IDRCL).
   • IDRCL is the sole agent responsible for resolution of more than ₹83,000 crore of bad loans to be acquired by the government-backed National Asset Reconstruction Company (NARCL).
   • IDRCL is a private sector company controlled by private sector banks that own a 51% share.
   • Its seven-member board is chaired by former SBI executive Diwakar Gupta.
3. Parameswaran Iyer (Former Drinking Water and Sanitation Secretary) has been appointed as the CEO of NITI Aayog.
   • Iyer is known for spearheading the Swachh Bharat Mission.
