  1. Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog has released the second edition of – ‘Innovations for You’– a compendium of innovations focused on agriculture, featuring 70 startups, supported by Atal incubation Centers (AICs) of AIM.
      • Besides, ‘The Ingenious Tinkerers’ – a compendium on the innovations on technology featuring 41 innovations from Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) of India – was also released.

State News

  1. Odisha govt has launched the facility of Digital Life Certificate for pensioners, which will use artificial intelligence-based video-verification processes for verifying the beneficiaries.
      • The state claims to be the first in the country to launch this facility.
      • The state also launched E-Diary initiative, under which all information contained in the government diary can be readily and conveniently accessed by citizens using their mobile phones.
      • Both of these are part of the government’s 5T and ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiatives.
        • The 5Ts include teamwork, technology, transparency, transformation, and time limit on which performance of government officials and projects are judged.
        • ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiative aims to bring in professionalism and behavioural change in public offices through a direct random feedback system from citizens.
  2. PM Narendra Modi has inaugurated and laid foundation stone of 23 projects worth over Rs 17,500 crores in Uttarakhand.
      • Among the 23 projects, the foundation stone will be laid for 17 projects worth over ₹14100 crore.
      • Foundation stone of the Lakhwar Multipurpose Project will be laid to be built at the cost of about ₹5750 crore.
        • This project will produce 300 MW hydro power and supply drinking water to the six states of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan.
        • Lakhwar Project is a part of Lakhwar Vyasi multipurpose scheme located on the river Yamuna in district Dehradun of Uttarakhand.
      • Foundation stone of AIIMS Rishikesh satellite centre in Udham Singh Nagar district and Jagjivan Ram Government Medical College at Pithoragarh.
      • The foundation stone of a 41 acre Aroma Park was also laid at Kashipur and a 40 acre Plastic Industrial Park at Sitarganj will be laid.

      • The two centres will carry out extensive research in developing transformative technologies for use by the armed forces.

International News

  1. Russia has launched the Angara A5 rocket from Plesetsk Cosmodrome in north-western Russia.
      • The Angara (named after a river in Siberia) A5 is the first heavy-lift launch vehicle used by the Russian space agency Roscosmos since the collapse of the Soviet Union three decades ago.
      • Russia has also announced to launch the nuclear powered icebreaker ‘Sibir’. It is used to break the ice fleet to keep Arctic sea route open throughout the year.
      • Russia has a fleet of six nuclear-powered icebreakers: ”Taymyr”, “Vaygash”, “50 Let Pobedy”, “Yamal”, “Arktika” and “Sibir”. Also, the nuclear-powered cargo ship “Sevmorput” belongs to Rosatomflot’s fleet based in Murmansk.
  2. New Development Bank of BRICS has welcomed Egypt as a new member.
      • Earlier, Bangladesh, UAE, and Uruguay have joined the bank.

  1. Ministry of Education has released Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA).
      • Purpose – It ranks all major higher educational institutions and universities in India on indicators related to promotion and support of “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development” amongst students and faculties.
      • It is an initiative of Ministry of Education implemented through AICTE and Ministry’s Innovation Cell.
      • This is the 3rd edition in which 1438 institutions

Banking & Economy

  1. According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s data, India’s renewable energy industry received foreign direct investment (FDI) worth $7.27 billion from 2014-15 till June 2021.
      • Of this, FDI of US$ 797.21 million was attracted during 2020-21.
      • The govt has approved 100% FDI in renewables under the automatic approval.
  2. ICICI Prudential Life Insurance has released a term insurance product ‘ICICI Pru iProtect Return of Premium’.
      • It is a customer-centric plan that will offer life-stage based cover wherein the quantum of life cover is automatically adjusted based on the customer’s life stages.
      • The ICICI Pru iProtect Return of Premium will offer a return of 105% of all premiums paid on survival, besides providing cover against 64 critical illnesses.
      • It offers two variants – Life Stage Cover and Level Cover.
  3. RBI has extended the restrictions on Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank for another three months till the end of March next year.
      • In November 2021, RBI had also released the draft scheme for the acquisition of the PMC Bank by Unity Small Finance Bank.
      • USFB, promoted by Centrum Financial Services along with Resilient Innovation Pvt Ltd as ‘joint investor’, was granted a banking licence in October 2021.
  4. Central Bank of India has partnered with the National Payments Council of India (NPCI) to launch CBoI RuPay Business Platinum Debit Card, a tailor-made offering, for firms/corporates.
      • Customers using the CBoI RuPay Business Platinum Debit Card will also get a purchase protection coverage of Rs 2 lakh and accidental death and air accident coverage worth Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, respectively.

SEBI has taken decisions regarding IPO, appointment or re-appointment of persons who fail to get elected as directors​, amendment to SEBI (Alternative Investment Fund) Regulations, 2012, amendment to SEBI Mutual Funds regulations, and amendment to SEBI (Stock Brokers) Regulations, 1992, and SEBI (Depository and Participants) Regulations, 2018.

  6. IRDAI has announced that insurance intermediaries, including entities sponsored by them, can maintain current accounts in appropriate number of banks.
      • In August 2020, RBI had instructed banks not to open current accounts for customers who have availed credit facilities in the form of cash credit or overdraft from the banking system.
      • Later, RBI allowed banks to open some accounts with specific conditions mentioned in the statutes and / or instructions.
      • Insurance intermediaries also maintain multiple current accounts with banks at different operational levels (branch offices, corporate offices, etc), for regulatory and other purposes.
  7. Federal Bank has signed an MoU with Schwing Stetter (India) Ltd, a subsidiary of Schwing GMBH, Germany, one of the largest manufacturers of concrete and construction equipment in India.
      • This MoU will enable both Federal Bank and Schwing Stetter to offer customized financial solutions to their customers on equipment purchase loans.
      • India has emerged as the third largest market for construction equipment globally.
  8. RBI has extended the deadline for periodic KYC update till March 31, 2022.
      • Regulated Entities are mandated to provide all banking services to the customers, irrespective of their KYC update status.
      • In 2016, RBI came up with the master directions on KYC to supplement the Prevention of Money-Laundering Act, 2002 and the Prevention of Money-Laundering (Maintenance of Records) Rules, 2005.
  9. RBI has released the 24th edition of the Financial Stability Report (FSR).
      • FSR is published bi-annually by RBI on behalf of the Financial Stability and Development Council.
      • The report has assessed the economic situation of Indian market and international market.
      • As per the report, the capital to risk-weighted assets ratio (CRAR) of scheduled commercial banks (SCB) has increased to a new peak of 6% and their provisioning coverage ratio (PCR) stood at 68.1% in September 2021.
      • The gross non-performing assets (GNPA) and net NPA (NNPA) ratios of SCBs has declined to 9% and 2.3%, respectively, in September 2021.
      • The provisioning coverage ratio (PCR) of SCBs increased from 67.6 in March 2021 to 1% in September 2021.
      • 2022 Outlook – SCB’s GNPA ratio may increase from 6.9% in September 2021 to 8.1% by September 2022 under the baseline scenario and to 9.5% under a severe stress scenario.
      • The CRAR of urban co-operative banks (UCBs) stood at 12.9% in September 2021 while that of NBFCs stood at 26.3%.
  10. ITC Ltd has collaborated with Invest India to crowdsource innovative ideas for single-use plastic substitution and automate waste segregation.
      • As part of this collaboration, ITC has launched the Sustainability Innovation Challenge to support innovative startup ideas on sustainable packaging and smart waste management solutions.
      • Applications for the challenge will be invited on the Startup India portal.
