President Droupadi Murmu Launches Development Initiatives

  • What: President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several development initiatives at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 28 July 2026, marking four years in office.

    • The President launched an app-based e-Audio Guide in 16 languages and the third edition of e-Upahaar for public auctions of official gifts.

Over 12,000 e-Zero FIRs Registered for Cyber Financial Fraud

  • What: Minister of State for the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Bandi Sanjay Kumar informed the Lok Sabha that more than 12,000 e-Zero First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered for cyber financial fraud across 18 States and Union Territories (UTs).
  • Tell me more:
    • Launched in May 2025, the system allows victims of cyber financial fraud to report cases online or through the 1930 helpline and register an e-Zero FIR.
    • Complaints above the prescribed loss threshold, reported through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) or the 1930 helpline, are automatically converted into e-Zero FIRs at designated e-Crime Police Stations.
    • Complainants must visit their jurisdictional cyber crime police station within three days to convert the e-Zero FIR into a regular FIR.
    • Delhi recorded the highest number of 4,174 e-Zero FIRs, followed by Chandigarh with 4,174, while Uttarakhand, Goa, and Rajasthan recorded the next highest numbers.

C-DOT Establishes Centre of Excellence at IISc

  • What: The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) signed a tripartite agreement with the Foundation for Science Innovation and Development (FSID) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for advanced communication technologies.

    • C-DOT Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay and FSID CEO Omprakash Subbarao signed the agreement to promote indigenous research and commercialisation.
    • With this partnership, C-DOT has established five Centres of Excellence across India, including collaborations with the IITs at Hyderabad, Kanpur, Gandhinagar, and Roorkee.
    • The CoE will advance 5G/6G, Quantum communications, cybersecurity, and Artificial Intelligence research while supporting deep-tech start-ups, innovation, and industry-academia collaboration.

ADB Approves $850 Million Loan for Rooftop Solar Scheme

  • What: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved an $850 million loan to support the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY), the Government of India’s flagship rooftop solar scheme.
  • Tell me more:
    • Launched in February 2024, the scheme provides financial assistance to eligible residential consumers to install rooftop solar systems through local distribution companies.
    • As of 22 July 2026, 39.72 lakh rooftop solar systems had been installed, with more than 18.93 lakh households recording zero electricity bills in some months.
    • The programme will train and certify at least 6,000 people, with at least one-third women, while promoting solar waste recycling and model solar villages.

Jitendra Singh Marks 150 Years of IACS

  • What: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh visited the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) in Kolkata to celebrate the institution’s 150th anniversary.

    • The Minister inaugurated an indigenously developed Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) system to manufacture India’s first amorphous silicon solar cell.

  • What: Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia unveiled “Scale without boundaries” as the official theme for the 10th India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026, to be held in New Delhi.

Gujarat Finalises Detailed Project Report for Kalpasar Project

  • What: Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Choudhary informed the Rajya Sabha that the Gujarat Government is finalising the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Gulf of Khambhat (Kalpasar) Project.

    • The project proposes building a dam across the Gulf of Khambhat to create one of the world’s largest coastal freshwater reservoirs to address water scarcity in Saurashtra.
    • It also includes a highway-cum-rail corridor over the dam, reducing the Bhavnagar–Surat travel distance by about 179 km, from the current 356 km.

First Direct Freight Train Connects Kolkata to Nepal

  • Indian Railways operated the first direct commercial container freight train carrying a canola consignment from Kolkata Port to Biratnagar Customs Yard in Nepal.

Madhya Pradesh to Set Up India’s First Telecom Manufacturing Zone

  • What: The Government of Madhya Pradesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to establish India’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone in Gwalior on 350 acres of land.

    • Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav attended the signing ceremony, and a Special Purpose Company will be formed to implement the project.

Banks Collect Over ₹7,086 Crore Minimum Balance Penalty

India’s Exports Reach Record $863.1 Billion in FY26

  • What: The Government informed Parliament that India’s total exports reached a record US$863.1 billion in FY 2025–26, driven by growth in merchandise and services exports and Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).
