  1. Ministry of Jal Shakti has released the Glacial Lake Atlas of Ganga Basin which is available on Bhuvan portal of National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) of ISRO.
      • The present glacial lake atlas is based on the inventoried glacial lakes in part of Ganga River basin from its origin to foothills of Himalayas covering a catchment area of 2,47,109 sq. km.
      • Dr K. Sivan (Secretary, Department of Space & Chairman, ISRO) has launched the National Hydrology Project (NHP) – Bhuvan portal of NRSC (https://bhuvan.nrsc.gov.in/nhp/).
      • NHP- Bhuvan Portal is a repository of information on the initiatives undertaken by NRSC under NHP with a facility to download the reports and knowledge products being developed by NRSC.
  2. Asia’s longest High-Speed Track (11.3 km) for vehicles’ testing – named as NATRAX (National Automotive Test Tracks) – has been inaugurated in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
      • Natrax is the longest, high-speed track in Asia and the fifth largest in the world.

  1. 2nd Public Health Summit 2021 — ‘Emerging Imperative in Strengthening Public Health for India’ was organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
      • National Health Authority (NHA) CEO, R.S. Sharma, announced that India would soon provide an open-source version of its CoWIN application and CoWIN platform to nearly 50 countries from Central Asia, Africa and Latin America that have shown an interest in the technology.
      • CoWIN is an extension of electronic vaccine intelligence network – eVIN – which is used to collect real-time feedback of the vaccination programmes.
      • CoWIN is a cloud-based IT solution for planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating COVID-19 vaccination in the country.

State News

  1. Telangana has launched a first-of-its-kind initiative – Chief Minister Dalit Empowerment Programme – to provide financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the eligible Dalit beneficiaries.
      • With a budget of Rs 1,200 crore for the first phase, the scheme will cover 100 families each from all the 119 Assembly constituencies in the state.
      • The amount will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of the selected Dalit beneficiaries.

  1. Indian Navy’s Hydrographic Survey Ship INS Sarvekshak has completed survey action around the stricken MV X-Press Pearl site and handed over survey data to Sri Lankan authorities.
      • The ship was developed at the request of the Sri Lankan govt.
      • The survey operations were carried out in three search areas around the wreck in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Navy and the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency of Sri Lanka (NARA).
      • Purpose of the survey – The survey will allow Sri Lankan authorities to issue advisories to both mariners and fishermen, as well as remove debris, ensuring the safety of navigation for marine traffic operating through Colombo port.
      • INS Sarvekshak, based at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi, has state of the art equipment such as Deep Sea Multi beam echo sounder system, Side Scan Sonar, Sound Velocity Profilers, and a fully automated digital surveying and processing system.
      • INS Sarvekshak has also conducted surveys on foreign cooperation in Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Seychelles, Tanzania, and Kenya previously.

  1. G-20 Foreign Ministers meeting was held in Matera, Italy, under Italy’s presidency.
      • The countries have adopted the “Matera Declaration”, to step up efforts to contain the effects of the pandemic on lives and livelihoods, build inclusive and resilient food chains and ensure adequate nutrition for all.
      • Also the nations reaffirmed the UN’s “Zero Hunger” goal for 2030.

  1. Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) 2020 has been released by International Telecommunication Union (HQ – Geneva, Switzerland).
      • GCI was first launched in 2015 by the ITU to measure the commitment of 193 ITU Member States and the State of Palestine to cybersecurity to help them identify areas of improvement and encourage countries to take action, through raising awareness on the state of cybersecurity worldwide.
      • Top – US, followed by UK and Saudi Arabia at 2nd places and Estonia at 3rd places
      • India’s rank – 10th (improved by 37 positions)
          • India’s score is 97.5 out of 100.
          • In the Asia Pacific region, India is ranked at 4th position.
          • India is emerging as a global IT superpower towards safeguard data privacy and online rights of citizens.
          • The result shows substantial overall improvement and strengthening under all parameters of the cybersecurity domain.
      • Parameters – Legal measures, technical measures, organisational measures, capacity development, and cooperation.
