  1. NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) has successfully launched GSAT-24 communication satellite for Direct-to-Home (DTH) service provider Tata Play.
      • Built by ISRO, GSAT-24 is a 24-Ku band communication satellite weighing 4180 kg with pan-India coverage for meeting DTH application needs.
      • The launch took place from Kourou, French Guiana (South America) on-board the Ariane-V rocket (of the French company Arianespace).
      • Along with GSAT-24, Malaysia’s Measat-3d communication satellite was also launched as the other co-passenger.
  2. Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, operated by the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), has become India’s first airport to run entirely on a combination of hydro and solar power.
      • In 2015, the Cochin International Airport in Kerala became the first airport in the world to run solely using solar energy.

      • Naan Mudhalvan (I am the first) program has also been launched by Tamil Nadu government recently.
  2. Karnataka govt has signed two MOUs – first MOU is with IIM-Bangalore for strengthening the economic activities of women self-help groups (SHGs).
      • Another MOU was signed with Subhiksha, one of the country’s first vertically integrated multi-State cooperative society for facilitating organic farmers to sell their produce directly to consumers.

      • These cafes will be developed by Border Roads Organization (BRO).

International News

  1. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA HQ – Vienna) had launched the Information System on Occupational Exposure in Medicine, Industry and Research (ISEMIR) in 2017 to collect data on the exposure of people to radiation in the field of medicine and industry.
      • The system collects data in two areas – interventional cardiology (IC) and industrial radiography (IR).
      • Now, a new version has been added to it, i.e., ISEMIR-N. ‘N’ stands for Norm (Naturally-Occurring Radioactive Material). ISEMIR-N will now be used for providing data on Norm across different occupations.

  1. Airtel Payments Bank has partnered with Muthoot Finance to offer gold loans through Airtel Thanks app.
  2. Liberty General Insurance has entered into a corporate agency agreement with Peerless Financial Products Distribution Ltd (PFPDL) to sell Liberty’s insurance products through Peerless’ network of 42 branches across the country.

      • The initiative has been launched under the ‘KBL-VIKAAS’, the digital transformation project. ‘KBL NxT’ concept aims to take the digital initiatives to the next level.

      • Also, the new premises of Ministry of Commerce and Industry – ‘Vanijya Bhawan’ was also inaugurated.
  5. Online debt marketplace CredAvenue has rebranded itself to Yubi in line with its objective to spearheading debt ecosystem and credit access globally.
  6. RBI released the draft Master Direction on Outsourcing of Information Technology (IT) Services.
      • As per the draft, Regulated Entities (REs) will not require prior approval from the central bank for the outsourcing of IT and IT-enabled services.
      • Banks, payment banks, cooperative banks, credit information companies, NBFCs and other regulated entities, would be required to put in place a comprehensive board-approved IT outsourcing policy.
      • All the REs will have to take due diligence in maintaining the quality standards and supervision.
      • REs should set up a robust grievance redressal mechanism, as the redressal of customers’ grievances related to outsourced services would rest with them.
      • A risk management framework for the outsourcing of IT services should comprehensively deal with the processes and responsibilities for the identification, measurement, mitigation/ management and reporting of risks associated with outsourcing.
  7. World Bank has approved a $245 million loan to support India’s efforts to modernize rail freight and logistics infrastructure.
      • Indian Railways is the fourth-largest rail network in the world having transported 1.2 billion tons of freight in the fiscal year ending March 2020.
      • The $245 million loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) has a maturity of 22 years, including a grace period of 7 years.

  11. Content distribution platform, Tata Play—earlier called Tata Sky—has partnered to enter into home security solutions with the launch of Tata Play Secure and Tata Play Secure+.
  12. Central government is increasing the number of portals for registering e-invoices from just one to six as it takes the digital route to plug indirect tax collection leakages in the run-up to a meeting of the Goods and Services Tax Council next week.
      • The portal will also ultimately connect the government’s work on ‘one district one export’ plan.
  13. NASSCOM has introduced an “AI Adoption Index” to assess trends of AI adoption in India across different segments like banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI), consumer packaged goods (CPG), retail, healthcare and industrials and automotive.
      • These sectors could cumulatively contribute more than 60% of AI’s potential value-add of $450 to $500 billion to the country’s GDP by 2025.
      • Global investments in AI had more than doubled over the last couple of years, from $36 billion in 2020 to a high of $77 billion in 2021.
